How to Write a 4 Paragraph Essay in English Literature Using an Example
Tips for Writing Your Paper
Your paper will be comprised of an introduction, two paragraphs that make up the body of your argument, and a concluding paragraph. Sounds easy right? Well, maybe not. Here is some advice on how to write each section.
The Introduction
Introduce an argument or thesis statement that you will support in two paragraphs known as the body of your paper. Create your statement in a way that will draw your reader in and make them want to keep reading. Outline a controversy or tell a compelling story. Just don’t be boring. And, since this will be a short paper, keep your introduction to two major statements that you will defend.
The Body
After you have written your thesis statement with two major points, it’s time to write about and defend them. The body of your paper will be made up of two paragraphs. The first paragraph will discuss and defend the first statement you made in your introduction. The second paragraph will discuss and defend your second statement.
The Conclusion
After you feel satisfied that you have defended your thesis statement and two points, it is now time to summarize what you have written in a concluding paragraph. Begin by summarizing your thesis statement and points. Be sure that you do not just copy what you wrote in your introduction. Use one or two sentences for this.
Write two or three sentences that say how your thesis has been supported by the information you provided in the body of your paper. Tell the reader why your thesis and supporting arguments are important. Do not include any new information in this section as that belongs only in the body of your paper.
To Sum Up
By reviewing example papers, you will get the idea of how a four paragraph essay is structured and written. Create a template with the titles introduction, body, and conclusion to help keep you on track as you write your paper. After you have finished each section, go back and critically look at your paper. Does each section follow the tips listed above for each section? Are there spelling and grammatical errors? Revise each section until it is just right
