4 Points to Consider While Writing an Essay on Leadership Experience
Writing an essay on leadership experience can be both a rewarding and an intimidating prospect. Scholarship applications will often require that you provide a paper on leadership. The pressure is on and it is critical that you do it well as money for the next several years of your education may be riding on this. Whatever the reason is for having to write one, you want to ensure you do the best job possible. There are four great points to consider before you start so follow this link to find out more.
Point One Showcase Your Skills
Before you start writing about what your leadership skills are, do some reading on what leadership is. You might have skills you didn’t know were related to leadership. For example, do you know that good personal insight is a leadership skill?
Now, brainstorm and jot down every skill that you believe you have. Think about situations where you led or inspired others into action. Did you ever take over a situation where others appeared unsure of what to do? Have you helped foster skills in others and then stepped back to let them shine? You are going to write about these skills in your paper.
Point Two Provide Real Examples
Choose two to three major skills you have identified and tell a story from your life to illustrate them. Make your story interesting and dynamic so that the reader is drawn in and really believes you have leadership skills.
To help your writing be dynamic, incorporate the five senses of touch, taste, hearing, smell, and sight into your story. Be as vivid in your detail as you can but don’t be long-winded. You want to captivate the reader but not bore them.
Point Three Summarize it with a Conclusion
This is the conclusion of your paper. You want to sum up your skills and examples briefly and then go on to convince the reader of the meaning evolving out of your leadership.
Point Four Discuss the Implications
Now that you have described and showcased your skills, convince the reader how they will add value to the world. If you are completing an application for a scholarship, you want to impress the reader with why it would benefit society and academia to give you money to pursue your studies further. What will you contribute to the field with your leadership abilities?
If you are writing a leadership paper as part of a course requirement, discuss what contribution your leadership abilities will have regarding your topic of study.
